Thanx to Olivier, one of my co-worker from fairtilizer, i just watched this quite interesting documentary discussing the current state of copyright, piracy and free culture. Lots of good stuff in it.
By the way "funny or die" was founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. Mixing original materials by Will and his friends with user generated videos from aspiring comedians, FOD is a pretty interesting experiment on how a brand of an artist could become a distribution and talent scouting channel with a little help from the community. Company is now broadcasting with HBO and is backed by Sequoia Capital.
Is Shangai 08 the new London 77 ? Looks like it for Martin Atkins (Former drummer of Pigface,PiL, Ministry and killing Joke turned documentary director). He is currently releasing "sixteen days in China", 60 mn on Chinese undergroung music current earthquake.
Martin Atkins: "I think time and location has more relevance, like London in 1977, New York in 1980 or maybe Chicago 1989. These were cities that had exploding scenes that I managed to be a small part of. Add to that some entrepreneurial what-the-fuck-ness, and there you go! The backdrop is different, but the immersion, the focus on just the music and attitude feels like a definite ripple from those times...I'm looking forward to the kind of musical liberty that will come once the music that is being made now has been understood. The next generation, and I don't mean biological but musical, will happen quickly and I think will be a most interesting mashup. The tones and textures are very different. I don't think we have seen that yet."
And if you mix the raise of a cultural movement with a big communication shift such as China is having right now with internet connections and mobile devices, looks like we have something which can be pretty interesting here.

Just came back to NYC today ...and ... for the first time in 8 days i can sit down in front of a computer... Hundreds of late e-mails, Muxtape and Pandora got troubles, BMI posted a 901 Millions $ record income, more cool artists and labels are using fairtilizer ... feel like i left for a month. This week is going to be less hectic with only two meeting a day here in New York.
I have spent quite some time in my life in Cali but this trip was amazing, been lucky to meet some very great and highly talented peeps ! Not coming from an IT background was getting me a little nervous but actualy everyone turned to be very nice (yes even business meeting !) indeed people were very interested to talk about internet and media from my very music biz oriented point of view - forget music 2.0 - ITS ALL ABOUT A NEW MUSIC COMPANY, OFFERING A NEW DEAL !
Speaking of music prism lets take it back to the 80's drops out, So special shout out to my Apple/Itunes peeps, The Mashable crew, Martin, Chris and his wife, Julia, Mich and Phil for setting up some super cool meetings, Chris Saad and the whole dataportability crew, Topspin music Company/Band;) in Santa Monica, Andy@warner, my man Raph, Freddy @ Netvibes, Ben @fox/myspace, Lucas ...

Just arrived in Palo Alto after a cool dinner and a very long discussion with my friend Dave1 yesterday night in NYC about what are the best tracks of 2008 so far ... So here it is, my fav tracks so far of 2008... might change soon !
Very interesting article from Music 2.0 Google search for legal music stream and download with integrated player. Ad supported. Definitly one to look after. PS: No international cat available yet.

Thsi is an old blog post i recently came across from Ian Rogers that i found very inspiring. Ian is currently launching Top Spin (definitly a start up to look up). While working myself on a Do it Yourself music club -Fairtilizer.com- it is refreshing to read this presentation of somebody who has been working in the internet industry, at grand royal, riding skatepboard and namedropping Glen E. Friedman. Thanx Ian! Click HERE!
Cody Chesnutt, long time no see, but nice come back with this fela-esque tribute to Barack Obama. By the way check out this playlist of Obama support songs.
